How can genes enriched in the retina help us understand visual function? Our 2026 publication, Systematic discovery of retina-enriched Rik genes identifies 1190005I06Rik as a novel modulator of visual signalling, addresses this question.

Published in Journal of Translational Medicine, the study integrates RNA sequencing from ten mouse tissues with single-cell analysis and gene disruption. It identifies 44 retina-enriched Rik genes and shows that loss of 1190005I06Rik enhances electroretinogram b-wave amplitudes and changes light-avoidance behaviour, revealing a role in visual signalling.
